Trip Introduction :

Nepal Pilgrimage Tour is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to fulfill their pilgrimage visits in Nepal. Nepal as a Hindu country has several pilgrimage sites which have huge religious significance. In addition, Nepal is also the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam – Lord Buddha. The abundance of Hindu Temples and Buddhist monasteries attracts thousands of pilgrim visitors every year, making Nepal a perfect destination for pilgrimage tours.

The tour includes visits to 6 major Hindu Temples, namely Pashupatinath, Budhanilkantha, Dakshinkali, Krishna Mandir, and Changu Narayan inside Kathmandu valley as well as Muktinath in the Mustang Region. In addition, we will pay a visit to 3 major Buddhist pilgrimage sites – Boudha Stupa, Syambhunath Stupa, and Namo Buddha inside Kathmandu Valley to achieve an incomparable sense of peace and power.

Nepal Pilgrimage Tour with Nepal Guide Treks starts at Kathmandu. Kathmandu valley comprises several sites with religious significance. We start our pilgrimage journey by visiting Pashupatinath Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva – Pashupatinath is the largest and holiest Hindu pilgrimage site in Nepal. Then we will visit Budhanilkantha temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located at the north of Kathmandu valley at the base of Shivapuri Hill.

We continue our pilgrimage journey towards one of the largest stupa in the world – Boudhanath Stupa. It is the heart of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal and also an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists as well as Buddhist people from all over the world. The following day, we start fresh for an early morning visit to Dakshinkali Temple – dedicated to Goddess Kali, located south of Kathmandu valley.

We can enjoy the magnificent view over Kathmandu valley during our drive to Dakshinkali temple. Then, we will drive the same return journey to visit Syambhunath Stupa. Also known as ‘Monkey Temple’, Syambhunath is believed to be one of the first places of pilgrimage in Kathmandu as the complex consists of several temples dating back to the 7th century.

Besides, you can enjoy the best view of the Kathmandu valley from Syambhunath. Then we will drive to Patan for visiting Krishna Mandir. Our pilgrimage tour continues towards the temple of Changu Narayan, the oldest Vishnu shrine in Kathmandu valley that is a living museum of carving and fine arts.

We will also visit Namo Buddha  – one of the famous Buddhist religious sites in Nepal, before heading towards Bhaktapur. After exploring Bhaktapur’s architectural and cultural values we continue on our pilgrimage tour with a scenic drive to Pokhara. From Pokhara, we will take a drive/flight to Jomsom and another short drive to Kagbeni.

From Kagbeni we will walk for a few hours to make a visit to the religious site of Muktinath Temple that is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is an equally popular pilgrimage site among Hindus as well as Buddhist pilgrims. We will drive from Muktinath back to Jomsom.   • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

    Our airport arrival and departure representative will greet you at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. Then, you will be transferred to our hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city. Our staff will help you until your check-in procedure ends at Hotel. You can either have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office for collecting more information about the tour. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

  • Day 02: Visit Pashupatinath Temple ; Budhanilkantha Temple & Bouddhanath Stupa.
    After breakfast, we will pay our visit to Pashupatinath Temple – dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is the holiest Hindu site and the country’s largest shrine complex. The temple is situated beside the holy river Bagmati and holds a strong religious significance among the Hindu followers.
    After that, we will visit the Budhanilkantha Temple, located about 10 kilometres from the centre of Kathmandu. The temple is basically a large statue of Hindu God Vishnu which lies in a reclining position over the twisting coils of Shesha Naga (Huge Snake) inside a tank of water.

    Then we head towards Bouddhanath Stupa, which is a massive whitewashed stupa that rises 36 meters above the ground. It is among the largest stupa in the world and the biggest in Nepal. It is the heart of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal and remains an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists as well as for local Nepalese people.

  • Day 03: Visit Dakshinkali Temple; Syambhunath Stupa & Krishna Mandir.
    Today we start rather early as we drive towards Dakshinkali Temple – dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple is one of the main temples of Nepal located about 22 kilometres south of Kathmandu. The vicinity around the temple is very peaceful as it is quite far from the overcrowded city area. We will spend some time exploring around Dakshinkali Temple.
    Our next destination is Syambhunath Stupa which is popularly known as the ‘ Monkey Temple ‘. Syambhunath stupa is believed to be the first place of pilgrimage in Kathmandu valley. The complex popular among both Hindu and Buddhists as it consists of several temples dating back to the 7th century. From the top, we can enjoy the best view of the Kathmandu valley.

    Then we will visit Krishna Mandir – a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna which was built in 1637. The Krishna Temple is built in the Shikhara style, imported from India. It consists of 21 golden pinnacles with three floors. The temple holds strong religious significance among the Hindu followers and is also one of the most treasured temples of Nepal.

  • Day 04: Visit Changu Narayan Temple; Namobuddha Temple & transfer to Bhaktapur.
    After breakfast, we will take a drive towards Changu Narayan Temple – dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which is located on a high hilltop in Bhaktapur district. The temple is the living museum of stone and wood carvings. The ancient inscriptions, fine arts and statues in the temple hold a huge archaeological and cultural importance. It is believed that the temple was built around the 4th century and is the oldest Vishnu shrine in Kathmandu valley.
     

    Then we will visit Namo Buddha which is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Buddhist after Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. It is believed that one of Buddha’s incarnations offered flesh of his own body to save a dying tigress with five cubs. Nevertheless, the surrounding area is very quiet, clean and peaceful – right place for meditation and practice. After exploring around the area we will be transferred to Bhaktapur for our overnight stay.

  • Day 05: Drive to Pokhara

    In the morning we will spend some time exploring the ancient town of Bhaktapur. After breakfast, we gather our gears and prepare for a drive towards Pokhara. We will leave Kathmandu valley and drive over the zigzag hilly roads that go along the Trisuli River. After a few hours, our drive heads gently up through heavily terraced fields and small hilly towns towards Pokhara. Pokhara is a beautiful town and tourist’s paradise which is set on the banks of the Fewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.

  • Day 06: Flight from Pokhara to Jomsom & Drive to Kagbeni

    Today we will take a scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. Jomsom is an important hub for Mustang and Upper Mustang trekking with an abundance of goods and services. After landing at the airstrip of Jomsom, we will make a short excursion around Jomsom. After lunch, we will take a short drive of about forty minutes to reach Kagbeni for our overnight stay.

  • Day 07: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath.

    After breakfast, we leave Kagbeni and follow the trail that ascends steeply to the upper valley with stunning views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak and the Kali Gandaki Valley. Our trek passes through one of the oldest village in the region – Jharkot, where the culture and tradition are largely influenced by Tibetan culture. From there, our trail climbs all the way to reach an important pilgrimage site for Buddhist and Hindus – Muktinath. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak and other chains of snow-topped high peaks.

  • Day 08: Visit Muktinath Temple and Drive back to Jomsom.

    Today we will pay our visit to Muktinath Temple which is a very important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The holy shrine is a Buddhist gompa and a pagoda-style temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Situated at an altitude of 3710 meters the temple is located at the base of Thorong La Pass In Mustang District. Behind the temple is a semi-circular wall with 108 stone faucets where ice-cold water from Kali Gandaki river flows. The temple is also an important pilgrimage site to Buddhists as the Tibetan Buddhist tradition states that Guru Rimpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism meditated here on his way to Tibet. After exploring around Muktinath we will take a drive back to Jomsom for our overnight stay.

  • Day 09: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara. Free exploration day at Pokhara

    Today we will take an early morning scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Pokhara is home to thick forest, emerald lakes and a place of remarkable natural beauty. The reflection of the Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail) Himal over the serene Fewa Lake makes this place truly magical. Besides, visiting sacred places, sightseeing around the city and boating in Fewa Lake could be a good way to spend your day in Pokhara. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

  • Day 10: Drive from Pokhara back to Kathmandu

    It takes approximately four to five hours drive to reach Kathmandu from Pokhara. Our drive goes over the Prithivi Highway which offers scenic hilly zigzag roads and along the banks of Trishuli River. The daily activities of the local people can be seen along the road when we pass through numerous roadside villages and towns. You will be transferred to the hotel once we arrive at Kathmandu. Feel free to take a walk around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening.

  • Day 11: Leisure day at Kathmandu.

    You’d surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early visit to temples is very practical throughout the whole country. Also, walking around the souvenir shopping streets of Thamel is worth spending some time, where you might find something interesting for yourself and your loved ones back home. Please join our farewell dinner in the evening for celebrating the completion of our Nepal Pilgrimage Tour. Overnight in Kathmandu.
