Trip Introduction :
Mustang Helicopter Tour is located in the northwest part of Nepal. Also known as the “Forbidden Kingdom”, this region was opened for tourists only after 1992. The isolation of a thousand years has kept the regions’ lifestyle, culture, and traditions, architectural heritages, and values unchanged for many years to this date.
Besides, one of the main features of the Mustang is the Kali Gandaki River. The trail goes right through Kali Gandaki Valley – the world’s deepest gorge. The routes paralleling the river were once the main trading route between Tibet and India especially for salt. A journey to Mustang is like traveling back in time as it is still largely untouched by modern civilization.
Mustang’s unofficial capital – Lo Manthang is the main attraction of Upper Mustang, the only walled city of Nepal. After the inspiring exploration at Lo Manthang, our return journey is made with a scenic helicopter flight from Lo Manthang overlooking the fascinating valleys of the Mustang region and the surrounding high peaks to Pokhara for a memorable experience.
Upper Mustang Helicopter Tour with Nepal Guide Treks starts at Kathmandu. After spending a full day sightseeing in Kathmandu, we take a drive to Pokhara. From Pokhara, we take a short scenic flight to Jomsom – the starting point of the trek. We start our trekking journey that heads north towards Kagbeni, where we meet the trail that leads towards Upper Mustang.
We trek along a trail with stunning views of surrounding mountains and pass through ancient gompas, cultural villages, and highly diverse landscapes to reach Lo Manthang. Lo Manthang is the heart of Mustang. Exploration around the stone-walled city and palace of Lo Manthang will be made. Besides, there are three major gompas – Jhumpa, Thupchen, and Chhoeda which have been preserved for many decades.
After spending a full day exploration around Lo Manthang our return journey is made with a scenic helicopter flight from Lo Manthang to Pokhara. During our helicopter flight, we will have a great view over the beautiful valleys of Mustang including Annapurna & Dhaulagiri massif with more than thirty mountains rising above 6000 meters. Our wonderful and memorable Upper Mustang Helicopter Tour with Nepal Guide Treks ends with a scenic drive from Pokhara back to Kathmandu.
