Trip Overview

Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trekking is relatively short in duration and closer to the capital city, Kathmandu. Located inside the Langtang National Park of the Langtang region, the trail offers an exploration of diverse landscapes, serene alpine forests, traditional villages, rich Buddhist culture, and religion.

Langtang Helambu Trekking is relatively well known for its unspoiled areas, rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and stunning mountain scenery.

Likewise, treks in Langtang, Gosainkunda, and Helambu can also be categorized as a religious trekking route since we can explore several Tibetan monasteries, culturally Tibetan-influenced villages, amazing mountain peoples, and their lifestyles. Three ethnic peoples – Tamangs, Bhotias, and Yolmos inhabit the Langtang Helambu region.

Langtang Helambu trekking with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition starts after an hour’s drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. From there, we begin our adventurous trekking journey as we follow an ascending trail to reach our first overnight stay at Chisapani. The scenic hill station of Chisapani offers magnificent views of the Langtang to Jugal Himal Mountain Ranges.

From there, we continue our uphill and downhill trekking with magnificent views of the Langtang Mountain Ranges. The trek passes through the settlements of Tharepati and Tarkeghyang. We follow the trail that goes through dense rhododendron forests to arrive at the scenic viewpoint of Yurin Danda. Our further trekking heads through the warm and friendly Sherpa settlements as an approach towards Tharepati, located at an altitude of 3650 meters above sea level.

Tharepati is the highest point of the trek. From there, our journey heads further to Sermathang with an easy trek through forests, streams, and waterfalls. En-route we reach Gangyul village, which is one of the traditional and cultural Sherpa villages. Here we will pay a visit to the Buddhist monastery which is located at the highest point of that village. Finally, our last day of trekking descends to Melamchi Pul Bazaar.

Our adventurous Langtang, Gosainkunda, and Helambu trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition ends with a drive from Melamchi Bazaar back to Kathmandu.

Physical Conditions and Experience Required

Interested trekkers should have the ability to trek 6-7 hours per day carrying a light daypack. The highest point of the Langtang Helambu Trek is at Tharepati, 3650 meters above sea level. So we suggest trekkers maintain physical fitness by jogging, swimming, cycling, gym etc. Highly skilled mountaineering technical skills are not required for the Langtang Helambu Trek, but previous trekking experience is a plus.

Best Season for Langtang Helambu Trek

Spring (March, April, May) & Autumn (September, October, November) are the best periods to go for the Langtang Helambu trek. At this time of the year, the weather is very clear and offers sharp views of the Langtang Himalayan Ranges. Besides, trails are dry and easy to walk on, and temperatures are mild and comfortable for a long day of walking.

For trekkers wishing to avoid the crowd in the high seasons, we recommend doing the trek in winter (December, January, and February). Monsoon Season (June, July & August) will be affected by heavy rain, which is not good for trekking.

What is the Langtang-Helambu Trek?

The Langtang-Helambu Trek is a journey through a beautiful Himalayan pathway connecting the picturesque Langtang Valley and the culturally rich Helambu area. The trek provides stunning views of the Himalayan mountain peaks covered with snow, rhododendron trees, rivers, alpine meadows, and authentic mountain villages.

Trekkers who walk this path will discover the vibrant Tamang and Sherpa cultures and visit monasteries, yak grazing areas and remote natural environments outside of the main trekking paths.
